About the artist

Born as an evacuee from London, Hazel lived in England, Scotland, and Wales as a child and has made up for a lack of a sense of home by staying in the same road in Bristol for most of her adult life.

She took her first degree in Swansea and her Masters in Fine Art at the University of Wales in Cardiff, where she moved into film and animation.

She has taught art, co founded a community arts group in Bristol which made public art projects throughout the South West, and has worked in television production and art direction on many documentary art and history series, the most ambitious of which restaged the trenches of the first world war in the Somerset Levels.

Her art practice is informed by a sense of place, family and history.
